Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.)

It is one of the world’s staple foodstuffs, forming an integral part of the world’s agri-food sector. It is an annual, herbaceous, starchy and tuberous plant of the Solanaceae family. The tubers are the edible part of the plant. It has a biological cycle of around 3 to 5 months. Potatoes are a rich source of starch, iron and vitamin C. They are also a good source of vitamins B1, B3 and B6 and nutrients such as Potassium, Phosphorus and Magnesium. In addition, riboflavin and antioxidants, which may play a role in reducing the risk of chronic diseases. Its cultivation is nutrient-demanding, assimilating high amounts of nutrients from the soil in a relatively short period of time. Targeted foliar applications are also of interest.
