Melon

Melon

Melon (Cucumis melo L.)

It is an annual herbaceous trailing plant of the cucurbitaceous family. It is eaten with its fresh flesh as a dessert, but can also be used as a base for ginger. It is a rich source of Vitamin A, Thiamine (B1), Riboflavin (B2), Niacin and Ascorbic acid (C). Globally, in terms of production, Asia produces 65%, Europe 13% and North and Central America 22%. Among the Cucurbitaceae, melon is particularly demanding in its nutrition, requiring a good knowledge of the necessary nutrients, soil, expected yield and the correct timing – how to apply the nutrition products.

The doses and growth stages are indicative and are always adjusted according to the recommendations of the agricultural engineer. Because rational fertilisation is always assessed in relation to:

  • Expected yield
  • Soil characteristics
  • Planting density
  • Environmental conditions
  • Growth stage
  • Plant vigour
  • Growing duration
  • Variety
